Patreon memberships are small, plural and easy to lose track of — most people who overpay have four of them, not one. There's also a wrinkle: cancelling doesn't always stop one last charge.
Quick steps
- Log in and switch to your member profile if you also create.
- Find the creator in your list of memberships.
- Cancel, then choose whether to stay connected as a free member.
Step by step
1. Make sure you're on your member profile. If you're both a creator and a member, Patreon keeps these separate. Click your profile picture in the bottom-left corner to check or switch profiles — cancelling from the wrong profile won't find your memberships.
2. Find the creator. On desktop, go to your memberships and pick the creator you want to stop supporting. In the app, scroll through the creators listed at the top of the Home screen and tap the one you want.
3. Cancel and choose your follow-up. Patreon asks whether you'd like to stay connected as a free member. Toggle that off if you'd rather leave entirely, then click Save and continue.
There's no pause button. Patreon states it doesn't currently offer a pause feature for members — to stop payments temporarily you cancel and resubscribe later. If you subscribed through an iPhone app, Apple may be the biller, in which case the route is Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
What happens after you cancel
- Cancel before your billing date and you won't be charged for the next period.
- A final charge can still land. Patreon processes pending bills on your account when you cancel — with per-creation billing, that can mean a last charge for paid posts published before you cancelled. It isn't an error.
- You keep access until your next billing date on charge-upfront and subscription billing.
Whatever you decide, the useful move is to put the date somewhere that will interrupt you. A cancel-by reminder a couple of days before the renewal turns "I meant to deal with that" into a decision you actually make.
