Canva is unusually reassuring about one thing people worry about: your designs are never deleted. The part that trips people up is who to cancel with — Canva can't cancel a subscription Apple or Google sold you.

Quick steps

  1. Check your billing email or bank statement to see who charged you: Canva, Apple, Google or PayPal.
  2. If Canva bills you, cancel in your account settings.
  3. Otherwise cancel with that platform — Canva can’t do it for you.

Step by step

1. Work out who billed you. Canva's help centre says to check your billing email or bank statement to confirm whether the charge came from Canva, Google, Apple or PayPal, then follow the steps for that platform. This is the step people skip.

2. If Canva bills you directly. Cancel from your account's billing settings and follow the prompts through to the end. You should receive a confirmation email.

3. If Apple or Google bills you. Canva states plainly that it cannot cancel Google Play or App Store subscriptions — you have to cancel through the platform where you subscribed. On iPhone that's Settings → your name → Subscriptions.

Consider pausing instead. Canva lets you pause a Pro, Teams or Business plan for up to 3 months. There are no charges during the pause, the plan resumes automatically, and Canva emails you before it restarts. If you're between projects rather than done, that's usually the better move than cancelling and re-subscribing.

What happens after you cancel

  • You keep premium features until your paid period ends, then the account becomes a Free plan.
  • Your designs are never deleted. Canva is explicit about this for individual plans — designs you've created stay in your account.
  • Team plans keep their content too. If you cancel Teams or Business, members lose paid features at the end of the billing period, but designs, Brand Kit content and shared folders are retained on Canva Free.
  • To verify: look for the confirmation email.

Whatever you decide, the useful move is to put the date somewhere that will interrupt you. A cancel-by reminder a couple of days before the renewal turns "I meant to deal with that" into a decision you actually make.
