The one thing that trips people up with ChatGPT Plus: you cancel where you subscribed. Sign up on the web, cancel on the web. Sign up on your iPhone, cancel through Apple. Here's both.
Quick steps
If you subscribed on the web:
- Sign in at chatgpt.com with the account on your receipt.
- Open your profile menu → Settings → Account.
- Choose Manage / Cancel subscription and confirm.
If you subscribed on iPhone/iPad:
- Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
- Tap ChatGPT → Cancel Subscription.
How to tell where you subscribed
If ChatGPT doesn't appear under Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your iPhone, you subscribed on the web — cancel at chatgpt.com. If it does appear there, Apple is billing you, and that's where you cancel. Checking first saves you hunting in the wrong place. The same rule applies if you subscribed through Android (cancel via Google Play).
What happens after you cancel
- You keep Plus until the end of the current billing period, then drop to the free tier.
- No further charges once it's cancelled.
- Your chats stay — cancelling Plus doesn't delete your account or history.
Because Plus renews monthly, it's an easy one to forget after a month of not using it. Set a cancel-by reminder a couple of days before the renewal so the decision to keep or drop it is deliberate, not automatic.
Catch every renewal in time
TrialBell reminds you before ChatGPT Plus — or any subscription — renews, so you decide on purpose. Private, on your iPhone, no bank connection. Free for 3 subscriptions; Pro is a one-time $19.99.
Frequently asked
Do I lose access the moment I cancel?
No — Plus continues until the end of the period you paid for, then reverts to the free tier.
Does cancelling delete my ChatGPT history?
No. Cancelling Plus only ends the paid plan; your account and conversations remain.
