- Where do I cancel? Where you paid. On expressvpn.com under My Subscription → Automatic renewal if you bought on the website; in the App Store or Play Store if you subscribed in the app. You cannot cancel from inside the ExpressVPN app.
- Is there a free trial? A 3-day free trial when you sign up in the iOS or Android app. The website has no free trial; new website customers get a 30-day money-back guarantee instead.
- If I cancel during the trial, am I charged? Not if you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. After that the plan you picked is billed automatically.
- Does the VPN stop straight away? No. You can keep using it until the last day of the current cycle, or the expiry date for an app-store plan.

Step by step
1. Sign in to your account. If you paid with a credit card, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay directly on expressvpn.com, this is your route. Enter your email address, select Send Code, enter the verification code sent to your email, then select Continue.
2. Cancel below Automatic renewal. Click Cancel subscription underneath Automatic renewal and follow the prompts.
3. Or go through My Account. ExpressVPN also documents a route via My Account → My Subscription → Cancel Subscription. Live chat and email support can do it for you as well.
Subscribed in the iPhone app? ExpressVPN publishes a separate article for iOS in-app purchases, because those are billed by Apple — you cancel in Settings → your name → Subscriptions, not on expressvpn.com. Check your receipt if you're unsure who charged you.
What happens after you cancel
- Cancel at least 24 hours before the end of a free trial or your next billing date. ExpressVPN states this explicitly — leaving it to the last few hours risks the charge going through.
- You keep using it until the last day of the current subscription cycle.
- You won't be billed automatically for another cycle once the cancellation is in.
Free trial or money-back guarantee? They are different things
The two get mixed up, and the rules are not the same.
- The 3-day free trial exists only in the iOS and Android apps, and Apple or Google bills it. Cancel in the App Store or Play Store at least 24 hours before it ends. ExpressVPN's 30-day guarantee does not cover these purchases; refunds are up to Apple or Google.
- The 30-day money-back guarantee is for people who buy on expressvpn.com for the first time. You pay up front and can ask for a full refund within 30 days through live chat or email. It does not cover renewals or subscriptions bought with a redemption code.
ExpressVPN's pages give two deadlines for stopping a renewal: at least 24 hours before the billing date, and, for monthly and yearly website plans, before midnight on the renewal date. Work to the earlier one.
