ExpressVPN's cancellation is quick, but it comes with a deadline that's easy to miss by a few hours: cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends or the next billing date.

Quick steps

  1. Sign in to your ExpressVPN account (email + verification code).
  2. Find Automatic renewal.
  3. Click Cancel subscription and follow the prompts.

Step by step

1. Sign in to your account. If you paid with a credit card, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay directly on expressvpn.com, this is your route. Enter your email address, select Send Code, enter the verification code sent to your email, then select Continue.

2. Cancel below Automatic renewal. Click Cancel subscription underneath Automatic renewal and follow the prompts.

3. Or go through My Account. ExpressVPN also documents a route via My Account → My Subscription → Cancel Subscription. Live chat and email support can do it for you as well.

Subscribed in the iPhone app? ExpressVPN publishes a separate article for iOS in-app purchases, because those are billed by Apple — you cancel in Settings → your name → Subscriptions, not on expressvpn.com. Check your receipt if you're unsure who charged you.

What happens after you cancel

  • Cancel at least 24 hours before the end of a free trial or your next billing date. ExpressVPN states this explicitly — leaving it to the last few hours risks the charge going through.
  • You keep using it until the last day of the current subscription cycle.
  • You won't be billed automatically for another cycle once the cancellation is in.

Whatever you decide, the useful move is to put the date somewhere that will interrupt you. A cancel-by reminder a couple of days before the renewal turns "I meant to deal with that" into a decision you actually make.

Never miss a renewal again

TrialBell reminds you before ExpressVPN — or any subscription — renews, and keeps the cancel route one tap away. No bank connection, no account, everything on your iPhone.

Frequently asked

When should I cancel ExpressVPN to avoid a charge?

At least 24 hours before the end of your free trial or your next billing date. ExpressVPN states this deadline directly.

Can I still use ExpressVPN after cancelling?

Yes, until the last day of your current subscription cycle. Cancelling stops the next automatic charge, it doesn't cut off access immediately.
