Max is the clearest example of why “how do I cancel?” is the wrong first question. The right one is who bills me? — because that decides everything else.
Quick steps
- Go to max.com/subscription and sign in.
- Read who your subscription is billed through at the top of the screen.
- If it says billed directly by Max, cancel there. Otherwise use that provider’s route below.
Step by step
1. Find your billing provider first. Go to max.com/subscription and sign in. You can also get there inside the app: choose your profile, then Subscription. On a TV device, choose the Settings icon, then Subscription. Your billing provider is shown at the top of the screen.
2. If Max bills you directly. When the page confirms your subscription is billed directly by Max (WarnerMedia Direct), the cancel option is on that same screen.
3. If Apple bills you. On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings, choose your name, choose Subscriptions, choose Max, then Cancel Subscription. You must be signed in with the same Apple Account you used to buy it.
4. If Roku bills you. Go to my.roku.com/subscriptions and sign in, find Max under Active Subscriptions, choose Manage subscription, then turn off auto-renew and confirm.
5. If Amazon bills you. Cancel through your Amazon account — Appstore subscriptions and Prime Video Channels are both managed there. Amazon emails you a confirmation.
Why this order matters. Max cannot cancel a subscription that Apple, Roku or Amazon bills, and those providers cannot cancel one that Max bills. Cancelling in the wrong place feels like it worked and changes nothing. Always read the billing provider at the top of the subscription screen before you do anything else.
What happens after you cancel
- You keep streaming until the subscription expires at the end of your billing period.
- Look for a confirmation email. Max's help centre notes that some billing providers send one when you cancel — check your inbox and keep it.
- To verify: go back to the subscription screen. It should show the subscription ending rather than renewing.
Whatever you decide, the useful move is to put the date somewhere that will interrupt you. A cancel-by reminder a couple of days before the renewal turns "I meant to deal with that" into a decision you actually make.
Never miss a renewal again
TrialBell reminds you before Max — or any subscription — renews, and keeps the cancel route one tap away. No bank connection, no account, everything on your iPhone.
