Dropbox doesn't really "cancel" — it downgrades you to Basic, which is 2 GB. If you're storing more than that, the downgrade is the part that bites.
Quick steps
- Sign in at dropbox.com and click your avatar (bottom-left).
- Click Manage account, then Change plan at the bottom.
- Pick your plan → Review changes → Confirm change.
Step by step
1. Open your account settings on the web. Sign in at dropbox.com and click your avatar — your profile picture or initials — in the bottom-left corner, then click Manage account.
2. Click Change plan. It's at the bottom of the page. Select the plan you want to change to, click Review changes, then Confirm change.
3. Confirm it's scheduled. Dropbox emails you with the subject line “Dropbox Plan will not renew” from no-reply@dropbox.com. You can also check in the Billing tab of account settings — click Change next to Billing period and look for “Plan downgrade scheduled”.
Subscribed on a phone? Dropbox publishes a separate route for subscriptions and trials bought on a mobile device — those are billed by Apple or Google, so you cancel in Settings → your name → Subscriptions on iPhone rather than on dropbox.com. Family plans and team subscriptions also have their own separate cancellation routes.
What happens after you cancel
- You keep your paid plan until the end of the current billing cycle, then the account changes to Dropbox Basic and you aren't charged again.
- Basic is 2 GB. Dropbox states that if you exceed the 2 GB quota you may not be able to sync, upload, share, move or preview files and folders — so get under the limit before the downgrade lands.
- To verify: look for both the “Plan will not renew” email and the “Plan downgrade scheduled” notice in Billing.
Whatever you decide, the useful move is to put the date somewhere that will interrupt you. A cancel-by reminder a couple of days before the renewal turns "I meant to deal with that" into a decision you actually make.
Never miss a renewal again
TrialBell reminds you before Dropbox — or any subscription — renews, and keeps the cancel route one tap away. No bank connection, no account, everything on your iPhone.

What happens to my files when I downgrade Dropbox to Basic?
Your account drops to 2 GB of storage at the end of the billing cycle. Dropbox says that if you're over the 2 GB quota you may not be able to sync, upload, share, move or preview files and folders — so move what you need out first.
How do I check my Dropbox cancellation worked?
Look for the confirmation email titled “Dropbox Plan will not renew”, and check the Billing tab in account settings for a “Plan downgrade scheduled” notice.
