iCloud+ is the subscription most people forget they have, because it's small and Apple bills it quietly. The one thing to get right is the order: clear your storage before you downgrade, not after.

- On iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
- Tap iCloud+ under Active.
- Tap Cancel Subscription — or See All Plans to downgrade instead.
Step by step
1. Check what you're storing first. Apple warns that you may not have enough iCloud storage to sync all your data after the change. Apple's guidance is to download or remove content that exceeds your new storage amount before you downgrade or cancel — doing it afterwards is the stressful version.
2. On iPhone or iPad. Open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, then tap iCloud+ under Active. Tap Cancel Subscription to end it, or See All Plans if you'd rather drop to a smaller paid tier.
3. On a Mac. Choose the Apple menu → System Settings, click Apple Account, then iCloud, then Manage Plan under iCloud+ Features. See All Plans lets you downgrade rather than cancel outright.
iCloud+ is always billed by Apple, which makes this one of the simpler cancellations — there's no third-party billing maze to work through. It also means it sits in the same Subscriptions list as every other App Store subscription you have, which is a good place to look for things you'd forgotten. What happens after you cancel
- The change takes effect after your current billing period ends, so you keep the storage you've paid for until then.
- Downgrading is often the better move than cancelling. Dropping to a smaller paid tier keeps Backup and Photos working while cutting the bill.
- To verify: the subscription should show in Settings as ending or changing on a specific date rather than renewing.
Whatever you decide, the useful move is to put the date somewhere that will interrupt you. A cancel-by reminder a couple of days before the renewal turns "I meant to deal with that" into a decision you actually make.
