Like most subscriptions, you cancel YouTube Premium where you signed up. Here's the web route, plus what to do if Apple or Google Play bills you.

Quick steps (web)

  1. Go to youtube.com/paid_memberships and sign in.
  2. Select Manage membership.
  3. Select Deactivate and confirm.

Step by step

1. Open your memberships. On the web, go to youtube.com/paid_memberships. In the app, tap your profile picture → Purchases and memberships.

2. Manage membership → Deactivate. Choose a reason if prompted and confirm the cancellation.

Subscribed through Apple or Google Play? If you started Premium in the iOS app, cancel via Settings → your name → Subscriptions → YouTube Premium. If you subscribed on Android through Google Play, cancel in the Play Store. On a family plan, the family manager cancels for everyone.

What happens after you cancel

Premium usually renews monthly. Set a cancel-by reminder a couple of days before the renewal so you decide on purpose, not by default.

Frequently asked

Do I lose access immediately when I cancel?

No. Premium features continue until the end of the billing period you've already paid for, then your account returns to the free, ad-supported YouTube.

I can't find the cancel option in the app — why?

You cancel where you subscribed. If Apple or Google Play billed you, cancel through iOS Settings or the Play Store rather than inside YouTube.
